I am writing in support of Community Social Service sector workers. They provide vital services to families and communities across British Columbia, and they deserve a fair deal! There are 15,000 community social service workers in B.C. They work with the most vulnerable persons in our communities, providing critical services to women, children and families, youth, people with physical or developmental disabilities and First Nation persons. Frontline community social service workers across British Columbia have given their bargaining committee an 82% strike mandate. The vote follows more than 18 months of protracted contract talks that broke down on March 30. Employers are asking for concessions at the bargaining table, and refuse to address key worker concerns such as employment security and ensuring healthy, safe and respectful workplaces. Community social service workers need job security not just for themselves, but also to ensure continuity of service for the people they care for. To support vulnerable families and communities across B.C., please support a fair deal for community social service workers!
